Library – two more days until Batman Day! To mark the 80th anniversary of Batman, DC Comics recently unveiled a commemorative Batman comic, Issue #1000.
Spirit Week – the fun continues! Today is “Hip Hop Day”, Tomorrow is “Country and Western Day” and Friday is a combined “Batman” and “80s Pop Culture” day.
Tennis registration for grade 9 to 12 will continue all this week in room 151 at 11:30. See Mr. McQuade or Mr. Beaupre if you have any questions.
Crew socks and soccer socks are available for purchase in the Student Athletic Council room for the upcoming fall sports seasons: grade 8 soccer, girls’ basketball and boys’ volleyball. These socks cost $20 and $22 respectively.
Any students in grades 9-12 interested in playing ultimate Frisbee, a new co-ed sport this year, are asked to come to a brief information meeting and sign-up in room 207, today at 11:00, Mrs. Shoemaker’s room. This room is located upstairs in the grade eight wing.
School Dance – this week’s spirit week will end with our first dance. The theme will be “Just Dance!”. Wear clothing from any style of dance! Only $2 per ticket. Purchase your ticket at the Student Council room, at lunch, today. Tickets will also be sold at the door, however, they will be $5. So, purchase your ticket early. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. The dance will end at 11:30 p.m. See you on the dance floor!
Are you interested in earning community service hours after school? Are you available from 2:30-6:30 on Tuesdays and Thursday evenings? Would you be interested in helping to score keep this fall sports season: boys’ volleyball or girls’ basketball? If so, please see Ms. Cotnam as soon as possible. Our first girls’ basketball exhibition game of the season is this Thursday, after school, against Fellowes.
Terry Fox Run – our school is one of 9000 schools across Canada participating in this year’s Terry Fox School Run. There are schools that do the Run in St. John’s, Newfoundland and all the way across the country to Victoria, B.C. and even up to Nunavut. There are over 3 million students raising funds for cancer research, all walking in Terry’s footsteps to show compassion for those with cancer. When we do our Run next Wednesday, September 25, we will be uniting as a strong school community and as united Canadians. Let’s Go Bishop! Let’s rock our Terry Fox School Run.
September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Did you know that cancer is the leading cause of death for Ontario children with disease related illnesses. Only accidents will kill more children this year. Ice Cream Day is next Wednesday! Cones are $2. All proceeds will support cancer research.
Congratulations to our Boys’ Varsity Golf Team for placing 2nd in yesterday’s tournament at Sand Point Golf Course in Braeside. Congratulations to Matt Berezuk, Phoenix Van Hoof, Charles Hurley and Parker Lessard. They are advancing to EOSSAA. Also advancing is Lauren Stevenson, who placed 2nd in the Girls’ division. Thank you to all members of the team for a great effort and an amazing day!
Junior Girls Basketball – practice today after school in the east gym. Athletic fees may now be paid online. A reminder to both the junior and senior girls basketball team members to see Ms. Cotnam at 11:00 a.m., in her office, in the gym, to get uniforms. First come, first served.
Grade 12 students, Tyndale University will be visiting the school on Friday, during period 4. Register in Student Services, today, to attend. As well, we had to re-schedule the University of British Columbia visit as well as Canadore College’s visit on Thursday. Check out our annnouncements and postings for future visits.
There is a rehearsal today in the music room for those students who would like to join Mrs. Christian in singing at church for the school mass. Please talk to Mrs. Christian or come by the music room if you are interested.
Student Athletic Council – our next meeting will be on Thursday, at 11:05, in room 167. This is a very important meeting to divide up duties for the Terry Fox Run.
