Student Vote – who will be Ontario’s next Premier? Who will represent us, in Renfrew-Nipissing-Pembroke, as a Member of Provincial Parliament in Toronto? Adults across Ontario will have the opportunity to vote for their favourite candidate on June 2. Students at Bishop will have the opportunity to vote for a local candidate, in a mock election, on Monday, May 30. Do you know who you will be voting for?
Student Athletic Council – application forms for next year’s SAC are still available on the ledge outside the SAC. Are you energetic, enthusiastic, and organized? Do you want to help run the County badminton tournament, various elementary tournaments, and fun SAC activities such as Hoopsfest and Jump Start Volleyball? Would you like to work in the SAC on tournament days? If you answered yes to these questions, we want you! Executive positions and an Event Coordinator position are available. The deadline to submit your SAC form for the 2022-2023 school year is Friday, May 27.
Bishop’s Track and Field Team had a successful two days at the EOSSAA Track and Field Championship in Brockville last Thursday and Friday. This Championship is one of the biggest meets in the province with over 1,100 athletes from over 60 schools participating. Many of our 37 athletes that competed had Personal Best results in their events, with six athletes breaking school records or improving their school record. Both Jesse Kenny, Megan Morrow, and Malachi Kenny improved their school records in the 800m. Ryan Pilatzke improved his school record in the triple jump, and Malachi Kenny improved his record in the 1500m. Congrats to Ryan Pilatzke who set a new school record in the long jump, Nolan Costello in the trip jump, and Jayden Colligan in shot put.
Moving on to the East Regional track meet this Thursday and Friday in Ottawa are: Carlyn Brunette, who finished 3rd in the junior girls 200m and 4th in the long jump; Claire Edmonds, who placed 2nd in senior girls javelin; Charlie Edmonds, who placed 2nd in novice boys long jump; Samuel McKenna, who placed 4th in junior boys sprint hurdles; Jesse Kenny, who placed 5th in the 800m; Austin Gowers, who placed 5th in the novice boys shot put; and James Harrington, who finished 6th in novice boys javelin. Congratulations to Jayden Colligan who won the junior girls discus competition and to Ryan Pilatzke who won the junior boys long jump competition and finished 2nd in triple jump. And, congratulations to Malachi Kenny who won both the novice boys 1500m and novice boys 800m. Malachi set a new EOSSAA record in the 800m event. Your coaches are all very proud of how each of you competed. as well as represented Bishop Smith for two days. Meeting today, at 11:00, in Mr. Kenny’s room for all East Regional qualifiers.
Co-Ed Softball – our first tryout is today, at 11:00. Please be prompt in getting to the field and helping to set up. Also, don’t forget to submit your signed permission forms. There will also be a try-out, tomorrow, at lunch.
Sprinters, jumpers, hurdlers, and middle distance practice today and Wednesday, after school, from 2:45-3:30 for all East Regional Qualifiers.
